The new 2010 Audi A1 is very similar to the Mini Cooper, which has been a total success in the United States for its first five years. Mini is an arm of BMW, offering the customer an upscale version of the already successful Mini Cooper. Like BMW, Audi is a the premium division of Volkswagen now owned by Porsche, where a recent management shuffle has strengthened the odds for a baby Audi smaller than today's compact-sized Audi A3 hatchback.

The new Audi A1 is expected to be delivered to the U.S. as early as 2010. It'll be somewhat smaller than the A3, but longer, wider, and taller than the popular Mini Cooper. In fact, the A1 is likely to be sized close to the BMW 1-Series.

Now a lot of people are claiming that the Audi A1 is not coming to the United States, we have not confirmed that statement with Audi nor is it fact! Please under stand since Porsche has taken total direction of the VW whom owns the largest stake in Audi you would guess everything has changed!   Lets see what will happen

Audi will offer two models of the A1 will a 4-door and 2-door hatchback. the entry-level model will offer a front-wheel drivetran and a the top of the line will offer Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive drivetrain. The base model A1 will use 1.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that produce 130 horsepower. The premium version will offer a twin supercharged "Twincharger" 1.4 liter engine that produces over 170 horse power. Compared to the supercharged Mini Cooper S

The 2010 Audi A1 base model could come with around 130 horsepower. The AWD A1 would probably sport VW's unique "Twincharger" 1.4-liter engine already available in Europe with up to 168 horsepower; it compares nicely with the supercharged Mini Cooper S. The "Twincharger" is so named because it uses both a r, to maximize low-end torque, and a turbocharger, for maximum high-rpm power.

Both 2010 Audi A1 models should offer a choice of 6-speed transmissions: A regular manual and optional Audi S-Tronic, a computer-operated sequential manual transmission that can be set to shift like an automatic, styling and appointments should borrow liberally from the A3 and A4 models, though standard and optional features will be carefully chosen to achieve target prices that won't cannibalize sales from the larger A3s.
