Corvette Blue Devil Caught Testing,
LAT Photographic
Will it be called ZR1?
We’ve been reporting on a super-Corvette for a couple of years, and General Motors had Corvette fans salivating at Laguna Seca, when it wheeled out the upcoming Corvette Blue Devil for some hot laps during the American Le Mans Series race weekend. The yellow car ran a couple of laps, then was loaded back onto the hauler.
Rumor has it that the new Corvette, known so far as Blue Devil, will be called the ZR-1 when it goes on sale sometime next year. We’ve also heard Sting Ray and Corvette SS as possible names.
Look for the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 to crank out in the neighborhood of 650 hp. The engine will be hand-built at a rate of 1500 to 2000 a year at the General Motors Performance Center outside Detroit and features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS-V.
Expect GM to price the car somewhere between $100,000 and $125,000.
