Suzuki X-HEAD
2007 Tokyo Auto Show: More on Suzuki X-HEAD
I've long thought that the rear fenders of current pickup trucks are in reality a huge area of wasted real estate, and that it could be put to much better use as a storage area. Suzuki seems to agree, as can be seen by this new image of their X-HEAD concept, which will debut at the Tokyo auto show.
As with most great ideas, the solution to this problem is so simple and so obvious one has to wonder why no one else has come up with it before. Yeah, I know utility-bodied commercial trucks have had this feature for decades, and even the Chevy Avalanche teased us with fender pockets; also there is at least one aftermarket supplier who has toyed with this idea with Ford and Chevy pickups. However no truck maker has had the foresight to incorporate this great idea into mainstream pickups—which I find unbelievable.
Not only is this a great use of space, the panel drops to down and acts a work bench of sorts. So who will be the first pickup brand to put this great idea into production?
