New two-door spun from Arnage; 550 to be built.

The handsome new Bentley Brookslands coupe will be the most powerful Bentley ever produced, the British arm of Volkswagen says, and one of its most exclusive as well.

The Brooklands made its world debut at the 2007 Geneva motor show.

Bentley says the new four-seat grand tourer is directly inspired by the brand's racing heritage.  "Bentley's proud sporting pedigree, forged by the exploits of the immortal 'Bentley Boys' on the famous Brooklands racetrack in the 1920s, was the inspiration for our new coupe, capturing all the style, power and splendour of that era," said Bentley's Chairman Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen in a release.

The heart of the new Brooklands is the brand's most powerful V-8 engine ever - a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter eight with 530 hp and 774 pound-feet of torque. In the Arnage sedan, the engine makes 500 hp. And as in the sedan, the engine will be teamed in the Brooklands with a six-speed automatic. Stability control and semi-manual shifting will be incorporated into the vehicle's dynamic package.

The two-door body sports pillarless styling and a flowing rear end that was made possible by the coachbuilt process, Bentley says. The 20-inch wheels underscore the big coupe's size as well.

Each Brooklands will be hand-made, Bentley says, and only 550 copies will be made. The first editions will be sold in the first half of 2008.
