Unveiled: 2008 Infiniti M, Edmunds
PEBBLE BEACH, California — Infiniti is rolling out the upgraded 2008 M sedan with several new technical features, plus exterior and interior updates.
Most significant among the new options is Nissan's lane-departure prevention (LDP) system, which also will be offered on the new Infiniti EX35. Like the earlier lane-departure warning system, the more advanced LDP uses a small camera mounted behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of "lane drift" with a visual display and audible buzzer. If the driver does not intervene, LDP then uses the vehicle dynamic control system to apply slight brake pressure to the opposite wheels to help prevent the car from inadvertently traveling out of the intended lane.
Another highlight for 2008 is the availability of all-wheel drive on the V8-powered sedan, which is designated M45x.
Exterior changes on all models include revised front and rear fascia, grille, foglamps, side sills, rear fenders, deck lid and taillamps, plus new 18- and 19-inch sport alloy wheels.
Inside, the 2008 M gets an upgraded hard-drive navigation system with touchscreen, a 9.3GB "music box" hard drive for digital music storage, as well as white electroluminescent gauges with violet accents.
Last year's Sport models have been replaced by an optional Sport package, which bundles rear active steer, 19-inch wheels and tires, and specific exterior and interior accents.
What this means to you: An excellent luxury sport sedan gets even better with new technology and some modest revisions inside and out.
